INFORMATION LETTER
The Language Department of the Representative Office of St. Petersburg State University in Greece, which operates on the basis of the Center for Russian Language and Culture "Russian Word" (Thessaloniki) would like to inform you about Intensive Modern Greek Language Courses for adults & children for all levels, from absolute Beginners (A1) to Intermediate (B1).
The aims of our Language Department are as follows:
- The teaching of Modern Greek and Russian as a second/foreign language;
- The Reinforcement/Maintenance of the Mother Tongue of the Russian Speaking Children
- The certification of level B2 Greek and Russian language knowledge for those who are interested as well as potential foreign students of Greek/Russian higher-level institutions;
- The exposure of foreigners to various facets and themes of Greek/Russian culture;
These particular courses on Modern Greek are addressed to the Russian-speaking professionals who live and work in Greece and wish to achieve an efficient interaction within the contemporary Greek society. The candidates can enroll on these courses either individually, or as a team of employees working at the same company or office. We provide programs with varied duration (three month, six month and nine week courses), different levels of knowledge (beginner, intermediate and advanced), different times of lessons (morning, noon, afternoon or evening classes) and intensity (intensive or less intensive courses or private lessons).
On the features of our method
Our teachers are highly qualified specialists (both Greek and Russian native –speaking certified teachers) in the field of teaching Greek as a foreign language, graduates of philological faculties of Russian and Greek universities. Russian is also an intermediary language that ensures high quality of education, the use of which will save time on explaining complex grammatical constructions by conducting the analogy with the Russian language system. This comparative approach will also help predict future errors caused by language interference.

We are located in the heart of Thessaloniki, 3' on foot from The White Tower- the city’s most recognizable site and the National Theatre of Northern Greece.

Class schedule for the A1 level
(Beginners Level/ General Use)
The A1 course is available for everyone keen on enhancing his/her communicative competence in the shortest possible time and participation is taken into account for the final grade. Attendance is crucial as well as class participation, homework, midterm test and final exam. A certificate of completion will be issued at the end of the course.
| Course duration: | 72 hours (3 months), 3 lessons per week. The number of lessons per week can be reduced from 3 to 2, but it is necessary to keep the number of teaching hours (that is 6) per week. |

The A2 course is available for everyone keen on further development of his/her conversational skills in Modern Greek in a variety of everyday situations. Attendance is crucial as well as class participation, homework, midterm test and final exam. A certificate of completion will be issued at the end of the course.

Intermediate Level/ General Use)
Those who wish to take a higher level are required to take a placement test before registering to the B1 course. The Intermediate Level is intended for students with knowledge of Modern Greek at a basic level, aiming to develop further their speaking and writing skills. The course explores a wide range of cultural-communicative settings as well as a variety of text types on several topics. Attendance is crucial as well as class participation, homework, midterm test and final exam. A certificate of completion will be issued at the end of the course.

Private lessons on Modern Greek Language for Adults (also available through Zoom)
On the training format
We are convinced of the effectiveness of face-to-face training, but due to the current situation, we are ready to start classes in a distance format on the Zoom platform, remaining faithful to the communicative methodology and uniform standards of work at the Russian Word Center.

Course duration: |
The Private Lessons are adjusted to the students' needs. There are no specific starting dates. The student can start whenever it is convenient to him/her. The lesson adjusts to the student’s individual skills and goals. You can also share your course with another student/ member of the family. Modern Greek language lessons for adults (A1-C2) are taught by a Greek or Russian native –speaking highly certified teachers. The content of the lessons will be shaped according to the student's needs (e.g. preparation for exams, career advancement, everyday life in Greece) and interests. The student will also take a placement test on your first day to determine his/her class level. |
| Hours per week: | You can opt for 2 ac. hours per week or up to 6 ac. hours per week. |
| Start date: | The student can start whenever it is convenient to him/her. |
| Monthly payment (per student): |
Payment is made at the beginning of the month by transferring fees to a bank account in Piraeus Bank or paying directly at the Secretariat. Notice that in case of conducting classes on the student`s territory, the transportation costs will be borne by the student. |
Intensive Modern Greek Language Courses for Russian-speaking children and teenagers
These particular courses on Modern Greek are addressed to the Russian-speaking families who wish their children to integrate to the Greek educational school system and achieve an efficient interaction within the contemporary Greek society. We provide programs with varied duration (three month, six month and nine week courses), different levels of knowledge (beginner, intermediate and advanced), different times of lessons (morning, noon, afternoon or evening classes) and intensity (intensive or less intensive courses or private lessons).
By the Tutor support of the educational process of integrating a Russian-speaking child into a Greek school integrating process we mean:
- Assistance in doing homework and mastering the Greek language, establishing compliance with the curricula of the two countries.
- Weekend school on Fridays/Saturdays for primary/secondary school students (preservation and development of the Russian language). Notice that our Center has the largest database of educational and methodological materials, a bank of test materials developed in cooperation with specialists of our university-partners and tested in six Intercultural Schools of Thessaloniki within the framework of various European educational programs. Among the main ones, we want to highlight the unique and award–winning Interactive educational platform - a game for Russian-speaking children "7 Keys of Dragon ".
- Constant assistance in communicating with the Primary/Secondary Greek School management.
Education in Greece is compulsory for all children between the ages of 4 and 15.

The content of the lessons will be shaped according to the student's needs (e.g. Introduction to Greek Language Greece, Mathematics, Physics, etc) and interests. |

Учебный отдел Представительства Санкт-Петербургского государственного университета в Греции, ведущее свою деятельность на базе Центра русского языка и культуры «Russian Word» (г.Салоники), предлагает вашему вниманию интенсивные курсы обучения новогреческому языку для взрослых и детей от начального уровня до продвинутого уровней общего владения.
Об особенностях нашего метода.
Наши преподаватели – высококвалифицированные специалисты (как носители языка, так и русскоговорящие дипломированные педагоги) в области преподавания греческого языка как иностранного, выпускники филологических факультетов российских и греческих вузов. Высокое качество обучения обеспечивается также благодаря языку-посреднику, русскому, использование которого позволит сэкономить время на объяснение сложных грамматических конструкций, проводя анологии с системой русского языка. Данный компаративный подход также поможет спрогнозировать будущие ошибки, вызванные языковой интерференцией.
О формате обучения.
Мы убеждены в эффективности очного обучения, но в связи с текущей ситуацией готовы начать занятия в дистанционном формате на платформе Zoom, оставаясь верными коммуникативной методике и единым стандартам работы в Центре Russian Word.
